The Manager will work closely with central agencies of government, other State and Commonwealth government departments and the non-government sector to achieve client outcomes.As Manager of Policy and Legislation, you will:Prepare high quality integrated policy and legislative advice to assist the Director, Senior Executive Director and Deputy Director-General to advise the Minister, Director-General, and senior management.Lead strategic policy projects, particularly legislation projects, including the development of submissions, Cabinet submissions, Cabinet Budget Review Committee submissions and legislation to enable Government to deliver its priorities relating to human services.Research and advise on contemporary policy and legislative frameworks, based on evidence and best practice locally, nationally and internationally.Develop and maintain productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful negotiation on strategic policy and legislative matters.Represent the unit on committees and working groups.Lead a legal policy team to meet all elements of its work program on time and within budget while building the capacity of team members.Contribute to the management of the Policy and Legislation team's Cabinet and Parliamentary work program, consistent with Government commitments and directions set by the Minister and Director-General, meeting all deadlines and performance requirements.Support the Director, Senior Executive Director and Deputy Director-General to represent the department in whole of government and intergovernmental forums and negotiations, undertake policy analysis specific to budget and policy initiatives at both Commonwealth and State levels to ensure that Queensland's interests are secured, and that vulnerable Queenslanders receive their fair share of Federal funding and support.Key skills & Experience:Experience with legislation work- Knowledge in writing Cabinet submissions, drafting instructions, explanatory notes, human rights statements and materials for Parliamentary committees.Full and complete understanding of the operations of the criminal courts.A Bachelor of Laws qualification, and/or other equivalent qualification, and/or experience with legislative and parliamentary processes highly regarded.If this sounds interesting to you, do not delay in applying.
