Vetwest South Perth has a Cats In The City boarding facility as part of the hospital, making this position a unique combination of an Animal Attendant role to help care for our boarding cats, as well as a trainee nursing role to assist the nurses and veterinarians when necessary.
The staff here are amazing and lovely to work with—very open and friendly. Plus, who doesn't like working with cats!
The position involves:
Cleaning and care of boarding cats and patients, including feeding and cleaning condos.Medicating and putting the cats out for time in the playpen.Admitting and discharging cats.Assisting veterinary nurses with general hospital maintenance duties and animal handling procedures.General cleaning duties, including preparation for the next day's surgery and consultations, cage and kennel maintenance, cleaning of surgical instruments, and pack preparation.Your main role will predominantly be with the cats. Daily cleaning tasks include laundry washing, hanging out towels/bedding, and folding and putting away once dry. Attention to detail and a strong work ethic are essential. This job is physical, so it is suited for someone who does not prefer sitting around.
During holiday periods, we generally need two Animal Attendants each day, so having some flexibility to pick up shifts would be ideal, especially during holidays.
The opportunity to be involved in customer service and veterinary nursing at a higher level will depend on the aptitude and attitude of the successful candidate.
Aptitudes and Skills Required: Versatile with a willingness to learn.Ability to show initiative and common sense.Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a team environment.Hours for this position: One day per week and every 4th weekend.Hours: 7.30 am - 6 pm.Saturday and Sunday on your weekend: 8 am - 3.30 pm.Vetwest offers supportive and extensive training and induction programs in a friendly, team-oriented environment. Some experience within the veterinary profession and with client interaction would be preferred but is not essential.
This position may suit individuals wishing to gain entry into the veterinary industry or those currently enrolled in Certificate III in Animal Studies or Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
