* Contribute to compliance activities relating to wholesale OTC market intermediaries * Leverage your expertise in OTC market intermediaries particularly across fixed income, currency commodity and carbon markets * Salary $90,749 - $107,911 (plus 15.4% superannuation) depending on experience * Full time, permanent role, hybrid (50% work from home), Sydney or Melbourne based A future with ASIC means that your work will contribute to ASIC's vision for a fair, strong and efficient financial system for all Australians.We value what you will bring.We value those with sharp, analytical minds and are open to challenging the way things are done.About ASIC ASIC's remit is one of the broadest of regulators across the world.ASIC regulates corporations, markets, financial services and consumer credit and monitors and promotes market integrity and consumer protection in the Australian financial system.Through our enforcement work, we hold to account those who contravene the law, working to achieve strong outcomes that address the greatest consumer and investor harms.Through Moneysmart, we aim to improve the skills and knowledge of Australians and provide information and tools to help them in their decision making.A future with ASIC means that your work will contribute to achieving ASIC's vision for a fair, strong, and efficient financial system for all Australians.ASIC is committed to a providing a diverse and inclusive workplace where the very best talent in Australia chooses to work.Indigenous Australians are encouraged to apply as well as applicants from all backgrounds and with different abilities.The team The Wholesale Markets Intermediary Compliance (WMIC) team is a team within Market Conduct that regulates conduct in wholesale OTC markets, including fixed income, commodity and currency (FICC) markets, carbon markets and energy derivatives markets.These markets are critical to the Australian economy for funding and risk management, have grown rapidly in recent years and will play a significant role in Australia's transition to net zero.The team undertakes surveillance of wholesale OTC market intermediaries' conduct and their management of conduct risks, and contributes to the development of market conduct standards.These actions seek to uphold integrity and confidence in Australian wholesale OTC markets by identifying and disrupting misconduct, raising and harmonising standards and promoting a level playing field between intermediaries.The role As an Analyst /Lawyer, you will be accountable for: * providing data-led analysis, evaluation and guidance on technical and policy issues relating to wholesale intermediaries' compliance with regulatory requirements, emerging issues, trends and risks - particularly across the carbon, commodity and energy derivatives markets * undertaking research and providing internal advice on international regulatory developments relevant to market conduct standards - particularly across the carbon, commodity and energy derivatives markets * undertaking research and providing internal advice on sustainable finance markets, including monitoring overseas regulatory developments * developing and maintaining project documents to support the timely conduct of surveillance activities and delivery of outcomes * conducting intelligence gathering, surveillance and project work to ensure identification of risks and compliance with the law, including onsite surveillances and desk-based reviews * developing and maintaining supervisory relationships with intermediaries, and other industry and internal stakeholders * assisting in the preparation of detailed reports, briefings and submissions on a broad range of policy and technical issues About you * Bachelor degree in law and/or a relevant finance or business-related qualification and/or equivalent substantial relevant work experience.* Experience in analysing business and policy issues and recommending suitable options.* Experience in analysing and resolving day to day queries, and undertaking surveillance and analysis activities using a variety of tools and information, including data, reporting, systems and databases.* Ability to interpret and apply financial services legislation and Australian financial services license conditions.* Ability to effectively present complex, technical information to different audiences.* Foundational knowledge and understanding of wholesale OTC markets and design and distribution of complex products in these markets.* Experience applying the Corporations Act, ASIC Act and other relevant legislation is desirable.Applications for this role will close at 11:59pm on 18 June 2024
