Position objectiveThe purpose of this role is to manage all activities associated with the almond orchard to achieve performance targets.
The Property General Manager runs the day to day operations and continual improvement of Rijami Farms almond orchard.
The Property General Manager performs supervisory and management functions for the business, oversees crop operations and runs aspects of administration of the business.Activity and responsibility profileThe primary activities of this position include but are not limited to:Managing farm operations to prepare, operate and supervise orchard activitiesMaximizing employee and machinery performance to maintain tree growth, health and yieldManaging field operations, including tree maintenance and the application of herbicide, foliar, fertigation and other chemical sprayingsLiaising with the Irrigation Manager to monitor plant water usage and fertilizer inputs and adjust delivery programs to crop requirements to maximise crop and tree growth potentialLiaising with the Manager of Rijami Estates to collaboratively manage operations of Rijami Estates.Liaising with the Workshop Operations Manager to deliver on the planned maintenance program for all farm non-fixed assetsSupervising and managing a team of permanent, casual and contracted staffEnsuring trees are consistently monitored for pest and disease and any issues are proactively addressedRisk management, incident management, reporting and injury managementEnsuring personnel are organised appropriately so that harvest and other operational activities on farm are completed within required timeframesEnsuring orchard management records are accurately captured and reportedMaintenance and presentation of records and systems for audit; performing functions required by industry regulators to ensure compliance and industry standardsLiaising with industry representatives, advisors and consultantsStock management, ordering and inventoryOrganising quotes and tendersOrganising and liaising with harvest sub-contractorsOrganising repairs and service for machinery and plant, ordering partsMonitoring performance and processes for continuous improvementOrganising transport of product with Almondco and transport companiesAnimal and plant control, liaising with regulators and neighbouring propertiesOrganising licenses and certifications; registrations and permitsManaging staff training and developmentOrganising collection / drop off of goods, supplies or items in and around the Riverland and occasionally Mildura for the employerOther duties as requiredQualifications and experience profileThe following qualifications are necessary for this position:Current driver's license (must have)Chemical handling certificateHigh risk work license – forkliftFirst aid certificateFirearms licenseChainsaw operation and maintenance trainingChain of Responsibility trainingWork Health and Safety due diligence trainingThe following skills or experience are necessary for this position:Minimum 5 years experience managing an almond orchard or similar agricultural/horticultural operationCrop consciousness, the ability to understand crop requirements in all conditions and act appropriately;Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to liaise with contractors and agricultural consultants;Strong leadership skills in order to provide guidance and direction to staff and suppliers;The ability to problem solve and troubleshoot;A strong understanding of farm machinery operation and maintenance;The ability to record and report on farm operationsGood written and verbal skillsThe following qualifications are desirable for this position:Experience managing Almond Orchards and maintaining the health of almond treesWorking conditionsThe employee may be required to work reasonable additional hours outside the 38 hour week average or agreed work cycle including weekends in order to meet the operational requirements of the business.
The employee may be required to oversee staff or contractors working outside the 38 hour week, including weekends and at night.The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.Physical work may be involved requiring a level of physical fitness to be able to dig, bend, kneel, lift and squat for extended periods of time.RenumerationRijami Farms is a family owned business established in the 1990s, and is situated in the Riverland, South Australia 20km from Renmark.
