EL1/EL2 Project Manager (Legal Division) Ally group is seeking a Project Manager to assist our client's Legal Division for an initial three-month engagement, with the possibility of further extensions.
The Legal Division is managed by the Chief Counsel and comprises both lawyers and non-lawyers. They are responsible for all legal services required by the department and partner with the business areas of the department, the Executive, and the Secretary to identify and manage legal risk across the department and facilitate excellent legal outcomes for their clients.
The role is located in Canberra, but our client will consider flexible working arrangements, including working at our client's state regional offices or another nominated location. The nominated place of work will need to be able to comply with the department's security and flexible working arrangements, among other relevant policies.
Role Overview: The Legislation Practice is a full-service practice providing legislation drafting, coordination, and advising services across all policy areas. The team is responsible for leading the development of primary and subordinate legislation, including Bills, Regulations, Rules, and other subordinate instruments. They provide drafting instructions to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) and other specialist drafters.
The successful candidate will: develop a project plan outlining key milestones and deliverables review existing project management practices and products, including templates and processes consult with the team to understand current practices and identify areas for improvement assess and recommend appropriate project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Lean) recommend new project management practices and products, supported by clear benefits and efficiencies ensure recommendations align with departmental and whole-of-government guidance provide recommendations for software or applications to support updated practices develop a high-level schedule for the department's legislation reform project, including milestones and key interdependencies engage with key stakeholders to understand requirements and validate new practices report to a steering committee of internal stakeholders provide implementation training and advice to support the adoption of new processes upskill team members by providing ongoing advice and guidance ensure recommendations are applicable to other legislative reform projects Our ideal candidate will have: proven experience in project management, ideally in a legislative context or with complex, high-profile policy projects knowledge of project management methodologies and the ability to recommend the most appropriate approach the ability to consult with stakeholders to understand requirements and support the adoption of new processes experience in training and guiding team members on new project management practices experience with complex legal or legislative project management (desirable) the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team Who we are Ally group is a law firm that specializes in legal management consultancy, legal project management, and legal recruitment.
