The AHP2 Occupational Therapist at the Jamie Larcombe Centre (JLC) will play a vital role in a multi-disciplinary team, delivering complex occupational therapy and mental health services. The primary objective is to enhance the mental health and functional independence of veterans receiving care from the Veteran Mental Health Service. This role requires flexibility to work in both ambulatory settings co-located at the JLC and inpatient facilities. JLC offers 24 single rooms, a gymnasium, sensory garden, research spaces, and tele-psychiatry services.
About the Role:
As the AHP2 Occupational Therapist, you will be accountable to the JLC Nurse Unit Manager and the Principal Occupational Therapist SALHN Mental Health Services. Some of your responsibilities may include:
Providing services to consumers which promote and facilitate the use of supports available at the local community level and which take into account social and cultural diversities.
Developing, implementing and evaluating a range of evidence based social, work, recreation, living skills and individual programs, relevant to consumer needs, which assist consumers to develop/maintain skills for independence.
Provide trauma-informed care and interventions.
Supervise and mentor Allied Health Assistants and support staff.
About you:
Must be highly motivated and have the ability to engage with consumers who have high service needs.
Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
Experience in mental health occupational therapy, preferably with a focus on veterans or trauma-affected populations.
Experience in the provision of a range of occupational therapy assessments, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and skills including individual and group work.
Experienced with comprehensive assessment skills including, consumer needs, analysis, mental state assessment recognition of side-effects from medication and risk assessment.
Ability to provide occupational therapy consultancy within the team and sector programs and evaluate occupational therapy outcomes.
