Role Summary At Extractas, our Agricultural R&D department consists of a small team of scientists with expertise in plant improvement and agricultural innovation.
Our Scientist / Senior Scientist role is integral to the Department's plant breeding, new variety development and IP protection programs.
We are seeking a suitably qualified & career minded Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our Agricultural R&D team working to support these programs and play an active role in all aspects of our laboratory, greenhouse and field-based plant-breeding activities.
Key Responsibilities: Provide input into the research and strategic objectives of the department.
Support the protection of Extractas Bioscience IP, through the characterisation of the genetic variation underpinning our new and existing commercial poppy varieties.
Develop, validate and implement the use of a molecular marker system to track key gene variants throughout our poppy breeding program.
Co-ordinate Ag R&D laboratory maintenance to ensure required functionality.
Manage the regulatory aspects of Extractas' GMO poppy research program and conduct greenhouse assessments of existing GMO poppy varieties.
Shared responsibility for both greenhouse- and field-based activities such as controlled pollination, plant chemotyping, seed harvest and storage, field-trial harvest, sample processing and UPLC analysis to achieve objectives of the plant breeding program.
Shared responsibility for plant husbandry in the field, GH, and other grow facilities to ensure optimum plant vigour, health and form to achieve the objectives of the plant breeding program.
About You Our successful candidate will be a team player, flexible and adaptable to change with strong attention to detail.
Specific qualifications, experience and abilities include: Higher research degree, preferably Ph D.
Development and/or implementation of a molecular marker system for use in a breeding program.
General knowledge of agriculture, biology and chemistry.
Knowledge of research methods and research reporting.
Ability to manage research budgets.
Skills in project management and planning.
Experience with Gene Analysis software.
Sound computer literacy with Word, Excel, Power Point.
Innovative, whilst pursuing sound science.
Our Scientist / Senior Scientist role will be required to participate in and contribute to routine greenhouse and field work.
Whilst an agricultural background is not essential, comfort with physical, outdoor and manual tasks is critical.
