The purpose of the Advisor (Operational Safety) is to perform a frontline advisory and support role to managers and operational staff within the Infrastructure Management and Delivery (IMD) division of TMR, providing work health and safety (WHS) advice and support. The role will report to local operations, but will work with health and safety practitioners across IMD and throughout Queensland to support the delivery of the divisional model for WHS.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Work collaboratively with peer roles and with the functional lead for operational safety in a matrix-style arrangement as part of the IMD WHS delivery model. Support and assist with the local implementation of operational safety content, through the delivery of informal onsite training/education, coordination of trials, consultation and monitoring of the effectiveness of onsite safety with workers and their elected health and safety representatives in each crew. Support the identification, planning and delivery of operational initiatives and WHS KPIs targeting improvements in local organisational capability in incident and injury prevention, incident investigations, front-line safety leadership, and effective onsite monitoring of high-risk activities. Lead and support effective incident reporting and investigation; and audits in accordance with established TMR and IMD procedures and methodologies. Support local workers, supervisors and managers through the provision of informal onsite training, role coaching, mentoring and support. Mandatory qualifications and conditions Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role. Current 'C' class driver's licence. Desirable qualifications and conditions University degree or other tertiary qualification/equivalent qualification (e.g., Diploma) in work health and safety. Proven experience in operational health and safety practices in the civil construction industry, including frontline engagement and surveillance, monitoring of compliance and performance, and the development of frontline organisational capability. Proven experience in safety oriented coaching and mentoring of field staff across various civil construction product streams. Proven experience in incident investigation within the civil construction industry and exposure to critical risk in a civil environment is desirable but not essential. This is a temporary role for 12 months, with the opportunity for extension.
