Their mission centers around culturally responsive care, fostering healing and advocacy in Aboriginal communities impacted by trauma. Through a holistic approach, the team collaborates with local agencies, delivering essential services to ensure safety, cultural connection, and empowerment, with a focus on children, families, and individuals at risk of or recovering from violence and complex trauma.About the RoleAre you passionate about making a positive impact in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities? This new program is an initiative designed to support children and young people aged 10–17 who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours. We are looking for a dedicated Aboriginal Counsellor to provide culturally safe and therapeutic support tailored to the needs of young people and their families.As an Aboriginal Counsellor, you'll be part of a community-focused team committed to strengthening access to culturally sensitive services, collaborating with Aboriginal communities and other organizations involved in the PARVAN service system. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in promoting healing, safety, and empowerment within Aboriginal communities impacted by trauma.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver high-quality, culturally safe counselling and therapeutic services to young people and their families.Work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities, government, and non-government agencies to enhance service accessibility.Provide cultural consultation within the Service to ensure a supportive and respectful environment for Aboriginal clients, families, and staff.Engage in community development activities, contributing to outreach services and developing partnerships to support Aboriginal families.Participate actively in the team, contributing to state-wide initiatives and local committees aimed at improving services for Aboriginal communities.What We're Looking ForTertiary degree in Social Work or equivalent, or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in providing therapeutic treatment for children and young people who have sexually harmed others or experienced abuse.Vaccination Compliance: Fully meet NSW Health vaccination requirements with documented immunisation history.Understanding of the specific needs of Aboriginal communities, including intergenerational trauma and the impacts of the Stolen Generations.Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment, with strong community engagement skills.Advanced oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proficiency with electronic medical records and data management systems.Willingness to travel within the Illawarra Shoalhaven area, with a valid NSW driver's license.Apply NowIf you are driven to make a difference in Aboriginal communities and are ready to take on this impactful role, we encourage you to Click APPLY NOW – we are shortlisting soon!For a confidential discussion or to learn more about this role, reach out to Emma McCaffrey at 0434 835 314, or connect with us on LinkedIn to stay updated on all our roles.This position is Aboriginal identified.
