Aboriginal Case Manager - Bendigo

Full time, ongoing position based in Bendigo Support rehabilitation of clients while engaging with the Aboriginal Community Play a critical role in helping support community safety This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Corrections Victoria is committed to the delivery of responsive and culturally appropriate services that meet the objectives of the department's Aboriginal Justice Agreements.
The Aboriginal Case Manager will be responsible for managing a case load with a majority of Aboriginal individuals with a range of order requirements aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending through conducting risk assessments, preparing case plans, providing interventions, and addressing the underlying causes of offending, whilst directing and monitoring compliance with court order obligations.
The unique purpose of this role is that it will be responsible for developing and implementing cultural support plans for Aboriginal clients and working with Aboriginal justice networks to identify appropriate support to strengthen case management outcomes for clients.
To be successful in this role, you will have: the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both socially and culturally, and the issues impacting on it an understanding of, or experience in, effective case management practices including proactively managing risk of complex individuals an understanding of, or experience in, modelling pro-social behaviours, with the ability to motivate and influence individuals who are being case managed assertiveness and confidence in dealing with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours. About us Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connecting offenders to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of individuals on court orders, people who have committed serious sex offences on post-sentence supervision, and prisoners on parole.
Corrections and Justice Services understands that to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and to achieve a reduction in the rate of reoffending, unique strategies and initiatives must be implemented. Through its long-standing commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan and in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, Corrections and Justice Services has developed this unique Aboriginal Case Manager role.
