Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Engagement Worker Full-time Hume City Council Maternal and Child Health department is seeking a dynamic and innovative Aboriginal Family Engagement Worker with experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
The role incorporates the facilitation of parent groups; providing holistic assistance, support and skills development to enhance families' parenting experiences and support linkage with support services, including Early Start Kinder.
It also is responsible for working alongside families in their homes, in a partnership approach to enhance parents' knowledge, skills, and identified parenting challenges.
This approach builds the capacity to consider both parent and child's social, emotional, health, safety, learning and developmental needs.
This position plays a vital role within the Aboriginal Engagement Team.

Our service is comprised of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including the Aboriginal Engagement Team, Enhanced MCH nurses, Parent Support Workers, Social Workers and the Universal MCH team.
You will need to be a flexible individual who has a passion for working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

What you'll be doing:
Work collaboratively within the Aboriginal Engagement Team and Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Program in Hume to facilitate parent groups; providing holistic assistance, support and skills development to enhance families' parenting experiences and support linkage with support services, including Early Start Kinder and support families to increase their parenting skills.
Provide one-on-one in-home support and referral pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in their homes, in a partnership approach to enhance parents' knowledge, skills, and identified parenting challenges.
Ensure that appropriate and required documentation of all consultations with families is completed in accordance with required standards.
Effectively support individual families and facilitate their early and sustained participation in relevant groups and programs, in particular engagement with Early Years Services, the Universal and Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Services.
Build and maintain respectful and trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
Effectively support individual families and facilitate their early and sustained participation in groups and programs.

The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:
Demonstrated experience in providing services for and understanding the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families of young children including delivering one-on-one skill instruction or support.
Demonstrated skills in engaging and working respectfully and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people.
Demonstrated skills and experience in engaging and working respectfully with families and children with a disability.
Demonstrated experience in building relationships and communicating effectively with community stakeholders.
Demonstrated knowledge in parenting and parenting-related issues.
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with families from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Demonstrated experience in working in a multidisciplinary team and with service providers.
Demonstrated experience in prioritising and managing own workload.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in social science, early childhood services or social work and relevant experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young children.
