Selection CriteriaSC1: Demonstrate capacity to take on responsibility and work independently.
SC2: Excellent organisational skills and the ability to take initiative in the running of Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics) Laboratories and Technology (Wood/Metal/Plastic/Digital) Workshops.
SC3: Knowledge of laboratory and workshop first aid treatment and procedures.
SC4: Knowledge and experience in the use of Technology Machinery and Equipment.
SC5: Excellent communication skills, which reflect a special understanding of the relationship between the college, staff, parents, and students.
SC6: Demonstrated capacity and experience with ICT including Microsoft products.
RoleAn education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
A role at this range may include:
Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes.Assisting teachers, within an educational program, by undertaking specific support tasks or the coordination of the support function.Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles.ResponsibilitiesThe position has line management responsibilities to the Principal and Business Manager, however on a day to day basis is accountable to the Science and Technology Leader.
Typical duties would include but not limited to:
Science and Laboratory Technician Preparation of laboratory equipment and materials for science classes in a timely manner.Preparation of solutions, stains and media for use in the Laboratory.Provide assistance to small groups of students in regard to practical science sessions.Assist science teaching staff with demonstrations.Provide technical support to the Science Faculty.Advise science teaching staff on technical components of curriculum.Maintain MSDS and update file for chemicals held in the Science area.Ensure identified risks regarding equipment, resources and facilities are reported to appropriate personnel within the science area.Technology (wood/metal/digital) Workshop Technician Preparation of materials for the technology classes in a timely manner.Provide assistance to small groups of students in regard to practical technology sessions.Maintain and employ safe work practices with the use of machinery and equipment.Ensure identified risks regarding equipment, resources and facilities are reported to appropriate personnel within the technology area.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
