Primary Objective Youth Support workers are required to provide a range of information, support, referrals, skills-based education, and case management services to Young People aged 8-21 years who are at risk of disconnection from their family, community, support networks, school, training and or employment.
Youth Support workers are also required to ensure professional and timely response to homelessness and harm minimization including self-harm.
Key Activities Support young people at risk of disconnection, focusing service delivery effort on building connections to their families and communities.Provide a coordinated and integrated response to the complex needs of young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.Be inclusive of all young people including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, those from diverse cultural backgrounds, expression of alternative gender identities, and those experiencing barriers to participation.Provide leadership, participation and development activities that encourage civic participation, build leadership, and showcase young people's talents.Qualifications and Experience Preferred: Certificate IV level in Community Services, Health, Social Work or Education; OR demonstrated relevant experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study of an equivalent level of expertise.Desirable: relevant work experience or study to the level of expertise required to undertake the range of activities for this role.Core Competencies Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication with clients and internal and external key stakeholders.Skillfully negotiate and advocate for clients with family, education providers and workplace.Competent and confident to deploy de-escalation techniques in situations where there are heightened emotions with clients and/or families, education providers or workplace.Ability to work within the legal limitations around the right to confidentiality and privacy.Demonstrate strong cultural capability for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.Proficient digital literacy to support accurate documentation within CatholicCare's chosen data management system.Other Requirements Knowledge of issues affecting children and youth who may be experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse and self-harm.Capacity and capability to engage children and youth from diverse backgrounds and establish effective working relationships.Review client needs to ensure appropriate and efficient service delivery and referral.Ability to travel to provide services and work flexible hours as required.The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.
This position requires the completion of an Australian Federal Police check, an NDIS disability worker screening check, and attainment of a Blue Card for working with children, prior to commencement.
