Our young people have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have a mental health, physical or psychosocial disabilities. We're looking for resilient and committed team members who can support young people to build skills and strengths within a therapeutic model of care to provide safety and empowerment.
The overall responsibilities of Youth Support Workers are to provide direct person-centred support and care to young people who reside in Kirinari OOHC homes, ensuring their individual needs are met. Youth Support Workers provide crisis intervention and ongoing support, maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, and empower young people to develop skills which support them to live a good life within their local community.
A typical day in the life of a Youth Support Worker could include:
supporting young people to develop independent living skillssupporting young people to achieve their goalssupporting young people to engage in their local communities (through school, community groups etc.)daily care and support, include assisting with household dutiestransporting young people to and from appointmentssupporting connection to family and cultureworking alongside other professionals (such as Behaviour Support Practitioners) to deliver multi-disciplinary care.We are looking for people who fulfil the following criteria: Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with a disability.An understanding of strength-based trauma informed practice (or willingness to learn).Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare of other related areas (Cert IV) (highly regarded).Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma (highly regarded).Responsive to feedback.Ability to think clearly and act quickly.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Understand the importance of adhering to Individual Personal Care Plans.Possess instinctive curiosity and a genuine interest in learning.Able to undertake physically demanding tasks associated with equipment use and customer transfers. Mentally and emotionally resilient.Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings and sleepovers.Willing to obtain required mandatory checks.To be successful in this role, you will be a person who can uphold Kirinari's values and always puts the young people in our care first.
