About the Role The Youth Ministry Officer assists in animating the Religious Life of the Catholic school by supporting and developing student ministry initiatives and assisting in developing youth faith formation and catechesis.
The Youth Ministry Officer supports the development, implementation, and growth of the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) Youth Ministry model within the Catholic school.
The Youth Ministry Officer assists the teacher in supporting the religious education curriculum in classrooms.
Key Responsibilities Work with teachers to implement the CSYMA Curriculum and catechesis generally.
Take a leadership role in conducting the Catch the Wave Retreat or Journey with Jesus school-based retreats.
Assist in school-based faith events (e.g., Reflection days, liturgies, sacramental programs, or school formation events).
Support the formation and ministry of the school Youth Ministry Team by coordinating meetings.
Lead student outreach events and assist the REC in planning specific events that animate the faith life of the school.
Engage key students in formation opportunities; including CSYMA formation initiatives such as the Youth Ministry Skills Series, the Youth Academy, LEAD, Illuminate, and Academy.
Participate and assist in the CSYMA Youth Ministry Training Program, the Youth Ministry Equipping School, and the Oceania Evangelisation Program.
Support student formation initiatives beyond the school context where possible.
Participate in fortnightly formation with Catholic Education.
Attend specified meetings throughout the year, including mentor meetings, Catholic Education Leadership, formation program, and Catalyst initiatives.
Qualifications Completion of Year 12.
Working towards completion of a bachelor's degree.
Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and Working with Children's Check (WWCC) registrations.
Selection Criteria Sound understanding of and ability to articulate the Church's mission in Catholic education.
Understanding of the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia or other school/ curriculum-based youth ministry formation programs.
Established knowledge and personal commitment to the Catholic Church and its teachings.
An ability to use discretion and judgment in planning, organising, and achieving outcomes under time constraints.
Sound interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment.
Compliance with relevant federal and state legislation (including child protection laws) and educational guidelines/ directives.
Compliance with WHS requirements in maintaining a safe workplace and safe systems of work.
Other Eligibility Criteria You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
Appointment is subject to satisfactory employment screening for child-related employment in accordance with CECG policy.
