Youth Justice Officer, Youth Justice Operations Administrative Officer 4 Remuneration Package $85,713 - $98,042 (including salary $73,091 - $83,611) Ongoing vacancy in Alice Springs, Northern Territory Provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable young people in youth detention centres across the Northern Territory and ensure the needs of young people are met within a secure, culturally safe and therapeutic setting, in accordance with the Model of Care and relevant legislation. Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC) takes a whole-of-life approach to addressing the vulnerabilities in our society through providing support services to create positive change for children, families, communities and seniors. As a Youth Justice Officer at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Darwin or at the Alice Springs Youth Detention Centre, your primary objective is to provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable young people in youth detention centres across the Northern Territory and ensure the needs of young people are met within a secure, culturally safe and therapeutic setting, in accordance with the Model of Care and relevant legislation. The position of a Youth Justice Officer is an integral role that supports and encourages social development and improvement of the wellbeing of children and young people, demonstrating genuine care and compassion. The role involves working across supervised teams within a rotational roster, which includes nights and weekends, and incorporating Aboriginal cultural competence in the design and delivery of education, programs and activities in the facility. Key duties include being a team member who fosters a positive workplace culture through exemplary performance and positive, strong role modelling while actively participating in protocols and procedures providing supervision, care and support for children and young people in youth detention centres across the Northern Territory. A proactive approach is needed when reporting issues and incidents to prevent harm including providing feedback and monitoring for case management and ensuring through care requirements are met. As an employee you will, partake in a 24 hour/7 days per week roster program, ensure you are working to a high standard and abiding by your responsibilities relating to work health and safety policies and procedures. You will work with a high level of integrity and adhere to the Territory Families, Housing and Communities values and the Code of Conduct at all times while working towards continuous improvement. The recommended applicants will be required to hold a current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance notice, an unrestricted drivers licence and undergo a criminal history check (a criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history). This is a challenging yet rewarding role, you will commence as a temporary employee on a 12 month full time contract and on completion of your successful studies to gain a Certificate IV in Youth Justice, you can apply to have your employment status changed to ongoing/permanent employment.
