Youth Assistance Program Officer

ABOUT THE ROLE As the Youth Assistance Program (YAP) Officer, your mission is to support young people (ages 15-18) in Hervey Bay and Maryborough, assisting them to remain engaged in education and transition into employment.
You'll provide tailored, short-term (up to 3 months) support that includes case management, form completion, transport, budgeting, life skills development, and more.
You'll also connect participants with educational and training opportunities, utilising strong community service networks and partnerships to deliver effective outcomes.
Key Accountabilities : Develop single case plans in collaboration with participants, focusing on their educational and employment goals. Facilitate small group programs on essential skills (e.g., budgeting, tenancy), in partnership with local organisations. Coordinate multidisciplinary support to address complex participant needs, guiding them to appropriate services. Maintain effective communication and engagement to ensure cohesive support throughout participants' journeys. Support up to 40 participants at a time, connecting them to further education and employment pathways. ABOUT YOU You're a motivated and empathetic individual passionate about empowering young people.
With a strong understanding of the challenges facing vulnerable youth, you have the skills to foster positive outcomes through effective case management and targeted skills development.
Your experience in engaging with local employers and collaborating with service providers positions you as a key resource in helping young people thrive.
SELECTION CRITERIA SC1 : Demonstrated ability to provide interventions, including mediation, case management, and life and employment skills training, tailored to vulnerable young people. SC2 : Proven experience in building relationships with employers to create employment opportunities for participants. SC3 : Experience in developing and managing partnerships with local organisations to deliver impactful support for vulnerable community members. SC4 : Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, report writing, and conflict resolution. POSITION REQUIREMENTS In-depth knowledge of the needs and challenges facing vulnerable young people. Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience in group facilitation and training. Working with Children Suitability Card and Police Check. Degree or higher tertiary qualification in Human Services or a related field.
