The Arts, Heritage and Libraries branch enlivens and enriches the lives of residents and visitors through the provision of library services, creative, cultural and heritage programs.
The Young Peoples Services Officer assists in the development, implementation and promotion of equitable, innovative and efficient library services appropriate to the needs of young people within the community and to provide branch-wide services and programmes that encourage young people to develop a love for, and understanding of, literature and libraries, including:
Assisting the development and delivery of specialist youth services, materials and programs that support the learning, informational, cultural, social and recreational needs of young people on the Coast. Assisting to plan, implement and evaluate activities in order to increase and improve use of library services and resources by children, young people and their families. Designing and implementing specialist training packages for internal and external parties in regard to new technologies and innovative programming. Providing reference and readers advisory services and facilitate the independent use of library tools and services for young people, families and learning providers. Assisting the selection and allocation of resources for library collections relating to young people and actively contribute to the management of this collection. About you The successful candidate will have:
Certificate IV Library and Information Science or equivalent, related qualifications or professional experience. Strong communication and customer service skills with demonstrated ability to prepare standard business correspondence and use initiative and sound judgement to guide customers and resolve problems often requiring tact, diplomacy and sensitivity. Experience working with children and young people, parents and carers. Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card). Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment. Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
