Job Opportunity at Matthew C. Smith RacingMatthew C. Smith Racing is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our stable at Warwick Farm (Sydney). The position is full-time 38 hours with early morning starts, and weekend work is required on a roster rotation.
The applicant must be able to educate our young horses on the ground whilst managing a small team of horses and staff under the direction of the head foreperson. The salary for this position will be above award – in the range of $73,150 per annum depending upon the level of skill.
Essential SkillsAll applicants must have a minimum of 3 years full-time professional experience in the role and be able to prove they are reliable workers with excellent horsemanship skills. In addition, the following will be required:
Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racingProven ability to train and educate young horsesA vocational level of English to be able to communicate in the workplace and take instructionDesirable SkillsTraining horses to obey natural and artificial aidsResolving horse problems like shying, spooking, balking, and boltingSchooling horses over jumpsBarrier and jump out educationOccasional strapping dutiesTacking up, bathing, and grooming dutiesCheck stable for hazards while mucking out and box dutiesTreating swelling and/or minor injuriesMaintaining horse condition, health, and work recordsForming trackwork schedules and training programsQualificationA Certificate III or equivalent international qualification. Referees essential.
