Job Opportunity at Matthew C. Smith Racing
Matthew C. Smith Racing is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our stable at Warwick Farm (Sydney). The position is full-time 38 hours with early morning starts, and weekend work is required on a roster rotation.
The applicant must be able to educate our young horses on the ground whilst managing a small team of horses and staff under the direction of the head foreperson. The salary for this position will be above award – in the range of $73,150 per annum depending upon the level of skill.
Essential Skills
All applicants must have a minimum of 3 years full-time professional experience in the role and be able to prove they are reliable workers with excellent horsemanship skills. In addition, the following will be required:

Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing
Proven ability to train and educate young horses
A vocational level of English to be able to communicate in the workplace and take instruction

Desirable Skills

Training horses to obey natural and artificial aids
Resolving horse problems like shying, spooking, balking, and bolting
Schooling horses over jumps
Barrier and jump out education
Occasional strapping duties
Tacking up, bathing, and grooming duties
Check stable for hazards while mucking out and box duties
Treating swelling and/or minor injuries
Maintaining horse condition, health, and work records
Forming trackwork schedules and training programs

Qualification
A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification. Referees essential.
