As the State Operations Manager for our National Express Freight Business, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the operational aspects of our freight services within the designated state.
Position Overview: As the State Operations Manager, for our National Express Freight Business, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the operational aspects of our freight services within South Australia. Reporting directly to the General Manager - Express Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, service excellence, cost management, recruitment, training, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Key Responsibilities: Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for employees and compliance with regulatory standards. Conduct regular audits to assess and enhance safety measures and compliance across all operations. Ensure company policies to manage all elements of the chain of responsibility are followed correctly. Maintain a branch sending and receiving DIFOT at or above the set targets for the state. Drive a customer-centric approach to service delivery, ensuring client satisfaction and retention. Collaborate with other departments including sending states and linehaul operations to streamline processes and enhance overall service quality. Drive scanning compliance is at the highest possible standard to ensure trackability of all consignments throughout the network. Develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining service quality. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and implement efficient resource allocation strategies. Oversee the recruitment process for operational staff, ensuring the right talent is onboarded. Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the operational team. Ensure records of all training completed are maintained and staff are appropriately licensed and deemed competent in all aspects of the operation. Supervise the maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and longevity. Collaborate with the National Fleet Manager to schedule and execute regular inspections, repairs and maintenance on all vehicles. Key Skills and Qualifications: Proven experience in a senior management role within the freight or logistics industry. In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Financial acumen and experience in budget management. Problem-solving skills with a proactive and strategic mindset. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in business, Logistics, or a related field or equivalent industry experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in freight or logistics management.
