About the role:
The primary purpose of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer is to provide workplace health and safety advice, service, and assistance to the department, including a diverse range of WHS activities and technical matters relating to operational activities, health programs, WHS initiatives, WHS systems/processes, and rehabilitation and return to work. The role works closely with the WHS Manager by implementing and monitoring state-wide WHS matters within a diverse team of building, construction, and maintenance field and office staff.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret WHS legislation, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards / International Standards and provide WHS advice on technical matters relating to building, construction and maintenance industry.
Assist with the development, review, and implementation of Baseline SWMSs and other risk assessments.
Support return-to-work activities including reviewing and developing suitable duties plans, reviewing of medical certificates, and rehabilitation activities such as ergonomic assessments and organising OT assessments.
Assist in organising and conducting planning actions for whole of business improvement initiatives, including WHS training and safety culture activities.
Conduct site WHS&E audits and inspections to ensure both client and contract workers are adhering to WHS legislation and make recommendations to improve safety on site.
Assist with reporting and investigating WHS&E incidents and contractor notifiable incidents.
Assist with coordinating emergency planning and response activities at the direction of the WHS Manager.
Coordinate the delivery of departmental health and safety programs and health monitoring activities.
Provide assistance to the WHS Manager on WHS matters including reporting and planning, coordination of WHS events, maintaining the SHE Audit schedule and WHS Hub page.

About the individual:

Experience in a similar WHS position.
Government experience, highly desirable.
Understanding of WHS legislation.
