The Role The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer reports to the 1st (Australian) Division Command Safety Manager and will be required to consult with Formation Safety Managers and local-level WHS representatives, providing advice and mentoring to maintain WHS compliance.
They will be broadly responsible for ongoing monitoring, auditing and facilitating rectification of WHS issues across 1st (Australian) Division in keeping with ADF and Commonwealth WHS policy and legislation.
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer will be required to:
Think strategically to identify and resolve problems, implementing alternative courses of action, and contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of programs, activities, and initiatives. Prepare high-level correspondence for senior leadership. Demonstrate team leadership, including effectively managing workflow and resources. Research and integrate multiple information sources. About our Team The WHS Officer will work within the Headquarters 1st (Australian) Division, Business Management Cell (BMC).
The BMC provides business and governance management and advice to subordinate formations and to the Commander 1st (Australian) Division.
Working with other WHS professionals, the WHS Officer will provide timely and accurate WHS advice and guidance.

The ideal candidate should also:
Work independently with minimal supervision and possess high-level interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships. Make decisions and represent the Command Safety Manager when on leave or assigned to other duties. Key Attributes, Skills, and Experience We Are Looking For: Experience in providing WHS advice in areas including governance, planning, policy interpretation, procedures, continuous improvement, incident investigation, and reporting. Skills and knowledge required to work in an integrated workplace with Australian Public Servants, Australian Defence Force, and Defence Industry Support Partners. Ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to provide timely and well-considered advice in relation to WHS requirements in an operational setting, that requires support to unit safety advisors and Formation Safety Officers. Be dynamic and keen to continuously improve systems and processes to ensure effective methodologies are implemented across the organisation. Strong skills across the Microsoft Office Suite (or similar) and willingness to develop strong skills in the range of software platforms used to manage WHS&E and WHS&E reporting. Team experience, including mentoring, coaching, and developing others. Application Closing Date: Monday 16 September, 2024
