About the Role: We are currently seeking an experienced Work Health and Safety Officer to join our team.
This role is key to driving the implementation of Orana's preventative safety systems and strategies, reducing workplace risks and ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of our staff and supported employees.
Reporting to the Quality and Safeguarding Manager, you will contribute to the development, review, and operation of a range of WHS administrative and organisational processes.
By providing expert advice, assistance, and support on all WHS matters, you will help build a positive safety culture that aligns with Orana's values and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities: WHS Strategy Implementation, Advice, and Support: Support the implementation of Orana's WHS Organisational Plan and align activities with NDIS Practice Standards.Develop and deliver safety initiatives to raise WHS awareness and promote a positive safety culture.Provide expert guidance to managers and staff on WHS issues and risk management.Partner with internal stakeholders to achieve effective and sustainable WHS outcomes.Facilitate WHS Committee activities and deliver feedback, advice, and instructions on safety matters.Standards and Systems Compliance: Champion compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act, NDIS Practice Standards, and other relevant legislation.Lead risk management processes, assisting staff with guidance and advice as needed.Drive the use of Orana's incident and hazard reporting systems, ensuring high-quality data management.Assist in implementing and monitoring Return to Work (RTW) plans in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Coordinator.Keep Orana's policies and procedures up-to-date and ensure effective communication across the organisation.Internal Auditing, Incident Management, and Reporting: Train staff in risk assessment processes to enhance safety awareness and compliance.Conduct audits and performance reviews to monitor compliance and identify improvement opportunities.Investigate all WHS incidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.Maintain and respond to WHS risks identified in the Risk Register.Provide mandated reporting to SafeworkSA and other regulatory agencies as required.Collect, analyse, and present WHS data for management and the monthly CEO Quality and Safeguarding report.What You'll Need: Minimum of Cert IV in Work Health and Safety.Demonstrated experience in WHS within a complex environment.A strong understanding of WHS legislation and standards (AS/NZS 4801:2001/ISO 45001:2018).Proven ability to engage staff in WHS initiatives and deliver effective safety training.Familiarity with Quality Management systems (ISO 9001:2015) is highly desirable.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coach, advise, and support staff at all levels.High-level computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office.A current Australian Driver's License and willingness to use a personal, insured vehicle for Orana business if required.Additional Requirements: NDIS Worker Screening Check (renewable every five years).National Police Check (renewable every three years).Willingness to undertake the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.COVID-19 double vaccination and booster, along with any other mandated vaccinations.Availability to work out of hours and occasional regional travel as needed.Why Join Orana?
