The Work Health and Safety (WHS) capability is an important element of SHIELD.
SHIELD is a multi-disciplinary health capability which embeds a preventative health and wellbeing focus into the day-to-day operations for AFP employees by providing services across Australia and directly supporting the health of the frontline.
The WHS team exists for the dual purposes of ensuring AFP's compliance with its WHS legislative obligations to mitigate, and reduce, workplace injury and illness and to support the development of a robust preventative organisational safety culture.
What will you do? Role Description & Responsibilities: Work Health Safety Advisors are responsible for leading, advising and reporting on AFP Work Health Safety strategies, plans and initiatives in collaboration with AFP Health and Safety Representatives.
The duties include but are not limited to: Providing professional advice, assessment and consultation to ensure legislative compliance and better practice, including provision of mentoring and support to AFP CommandsInforming injury prevention and risk management practices and proceduresAssessing, investigating and advising on remediation strategies for workplace hazards and incidentsLeading the implementation and sustainment of preventive interventions, safe work procedures, hazard control programs, hazardous substance and other relevant registers in AFP workplacesMonitoring and reporting on WHS performance and the effectiveness of risk controls in AFP workplaces in consultation with duty holdersContributing to the development, implementation and review of corporate policies, processes and systems which enhance the delivery of AFP operational outcomesOperating as part of a multi-disciplinary teamPreparation and delivery of Regional Safety Committees in accordance with legislative requirements (quarterly and consultative with workers)Fostering and encouraging a collaborative partnership with the WHS Regulator ComcareQuality assurance on service delivery with a focus on continuous improvementEssential Requirements: Australian CitizenshipA Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain oneCertificate IV or above in Work Health and Safety or equivalent (or demonstrated relevant experience and working towards attaining formal qualifications)Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education processProven ability to understand, apply and communicate complex work health and safety processes and requirementsDesirable Requirements: Current valid Australian driver's licenseExperience working in a multi-disciplinary team in a large organisational settingCert IV in Government InvestigationsLead Auditor TrainingRadiation Safety TrainingAbility to quickly establish effective and authentic rapportDemonstrated high level emotional intelligenceDemonstrated ability to be resilient and adaptableDemonstrated investigative mindsetDemonstrated high level negotiation skillsSelection Criteria: Achieve resultsCommunicates with influenceContributes to strategic thinkingCultivates productive working relationshipsShows personal drive and integrityApplication: Please submit the following documents via our Jobs portal prior to the closing date and time:
