Job Overview:
This position has responsibilities to coordinate, implement, and supervise wildland fire initial attack personnel and equipment to provide a safe and effective fire management capability for the Unit. Work assignments require cooperation and coordination with State and Federal agencies, Volunteer Fire Departments, the public, permanent and seasonal employees and private contractors. The position supervises seasonal activities related to wildland fire protection, buildings, grounds, vehicles and fire-related program projects of the Unit. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and implement training for Unit personnel. One of the priorities for the Unit is our cooperator relationships; therefore, the Senior Engine Boss will maintain relationships with the adjoining DNRC Units, surrounding National Forests and other federal agencies, and surrounding counties. It directly supervises an engine and crew member, as well as 5-7 subordinate Engine Bosses as directed by the Assistant Fire Management Officer. This supervision may be extended on and of the Unit during various work schedules. It may also require maintaining quarters at the duty station. This position performs Unit prevention and general forestry work, equipment and facilities maintenance, as well as other duties as assigned. This position may assist in forestry related tasks.
Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):
Coordinate and perform fire program operations, planning, training, interagency coordination, preparedness and prevention services within each Unit's jurisdictional areas to protect lives, property and natural resources on state and private lands. This position provides assistance with:

Supervision:
This position provides supervision for 5-7 temporary employees. The Senior Engine Boss provides essential ground-level operational leadership for fire prevention, pre-suppression, and suppression activities. It is one of the primary responders for initial attack on the Unit. It is a major contributor for the Greenough Unit seasonal training programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): This position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of fire (3) years of progressive experience including fireline leadership, Incident Command System (ICS) training and related fire program experience. Requires the ability to attain Incident Commander Type 4 position upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The position requires skill in the use and operation of tools, equipment and vehicles used in wildland fire control, forest management activities and field operations. Requires a thorough knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including; word processing, spreadsheets, databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
This position will require annual completion of an arduous Wildland Fire Work Capacity Test which includes walking three miles over level ground, with a 45lb. pack in no more than 45 minutes.
Essential functions occur in both office and field settings. Field work involves exposure to varying weather conditions, terrain, and road conditions; travel in mountainous terrain by vehicle or on foot; and arduous amounts of walking up and down hills. Wildland fire-suppression oversight involves exposure to smoke, dust, and related fire hazards and low-level flight in light helicopters over mountainous terrain. Overnight travel and staying onsite is required.
Special Information:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
