About the Opportunity The WHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the design and development of industry-leading WHSE frameworks, systems and processes to support delivery of the overall WHSE strategy.
Whilst this role is more strategic in nature, a solid understanding of the operational context in which ASC operates is key to the effective design and development so as to enable the Operational WHSE team to successfully deploy those frameworks and initiatives. This role will support all governance aspects of ASC's WHSE programs and initiatives, including but not limited to the ASC's Safety Critical Risk Program (supported by Operational Safety Risk working groups).
Responsibilities Supports the Senior WHS Specialist and works closely with the Snr WHS Advisor to support the design of the WHSE management system specific to ASC workers working overseas. Ensures that WHSE documentation and tools are fit for purpose to utilise operationally and that they align to both International WHSE legislation where applicable and Australian WHSE legislation. Supports with the preliminary and ongoing evaluation and comparison of International WHSE management systems to ensure alignment with respective ASC Australia WHSE systems and legislation. Works with risk management tools such as overseas travel risk assessments, in-locality safety assessments, safety process variation assessments, de-brief templates, in-locality WHSE inductions, and monitoring and performance measurement tools. Supports with the ongoing performance and continuous improvement of the WHSE management system for workers at International sites. Supports operational alignment for ASC workers engaged in SSN (Nuclear Submarine Sustainment) work overseas in the US by actioning the following:Ensuring ASC IEs WHSE management systems are meeting respective jurisdiction legal WHSE requirements, Providing support with advice and amending relevant WHSE documentation and tools, Monitoring & assessing ASC IEs MyOSH incident reports, hazard reports, and assurance activities, Supporting and escalating WHSE investigations, issues, and regulatory notifications. Essential Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety management, environmental science, engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of experience, 2 of which in a systems role. Essential Skills and Experience Superior comprehension of Work Health and Safety and Environment Legislation and application of relevant standards. Previous exposure to OHSA legislation (USA) – desirable. Significant experience in data analysis, workflow design and governance frameworks. Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly MS Project and MS Excel). Eligibility This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
