Whitsunday Regional Council | Maintenance Associate Traineeships | Diesel Fitting | Bhp Futurefit Academy | Mackay

Details of the offer

Learn to maintain and service major components on some of the largest pieces of equipment in the world. After 12 months training at the FutureFit Academy in Mackay, continue to your FIFO employment with BHP based at one of our mine sites across Australia. Permanent salary, development opportunities and reward and benefit programs from a top global mining company. About the opportunity You will be paid while you train at the FutureFit Academy and become a Heavy Diesel Maintenance Associate at BHP. These are permanent opportunities, and once successfully completing your studies, you will continue your employment with BHP based at one of our mine sites.
Our Offer is a 12-month training program based at the academy where you will train to become highly skilled and valued Maintenance Associates with BHP, completing a Certificate II in Engineering – Production Technology and becoming familiar with maintaining specific mining equipment.
The main responsibility of the Heavy Diesel Maintenance Associate is the maintenance and servicing of heavy diesel mobile mining machinery. This includes inspection and servicing, removing and replacing major components on the largest pieces of mining equipment in the world. The training involves a mixture of both classroom and practical learning on how to maintain equipment such as Bulldozers, Graders, Loaders, Excavators, Dump Trucks and much more.
While training you will be working a roster of 7 Days / 7 Off / 7 Nights / 7 Off, day shift hours are 6am to 4:30pm and night shift hours are 1:30pm to 12:00am.
Candidates would need to relocate to the Mackay area if they do not already live locally. As these are town-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships, accommodation or transport will not be provided. However, upon successful completion of the training program, you will commence FIFO mine-site based employment.
When working at one of our mine sites, we provide you with ensuited accommodation and meals at the mining village you'll be staying at.
BHP has sites across Australia and it is important to understand that you may be required to relocate (including interstate WA & SA) once you complete your training. This is based on demand for your trade or skillset across our mine sites.
About you We're looking for people from a broad range of backgrounds. Previous maintenance training is not necessary; however, you will have a genuine interest in fixing, repairing or tinkering and understanding this is a physically demanding role where you will be working with machinery parts that involve grease and dirt. Ideally, you will have proven examples of getting hands-on (through a hobby, or previous work experience) and a desire to learn more.
As these training programs contain fast-tracked learning, you will need to commit to attendance and have a personal situation and/or support network that will allow you to live local to the FutureFit Academy and work your training roster and an understanding of how this will work once you are deployed to site on a FIFO roster.
To set you up for success, you will need: A high commitment to safety is a must. A strong desire to learn and develop a range of new skills. Motivation to achieve goals & enjoy a mixture of classroom and hands-on learning. Ability to live a safe travelling distance to the training centre - this is not a FIFO/DIDO role (whilst studying at the academy). Ability to attend a roster that rotates across early mornings, evenings and weekends. To have the necessary personal support networks available to assist you in working the above roster and continuing a FIFO lifestyle after course completion. Experience working on machinery/vehicles through a hobby or work is highly regarded, but not essential. Benefits of the program If successful, you will be paid to study whilst working on industry-leading equipment, and will have the opportunity to learn about BHP systems and processes.
TRANSITION TO TRADES - after 12 months being deployed, if the Maintenance Associate is selected and has interest in completing a trade, they will go back to FFA (Mackay or Perth) and study for another 12 - 18 months. This will function more like a traditional trade, with time split between the FFA and completing practical skills on site.
As a permanent employee with BHP you will receive an attractive salary and a wide range of benefits such as: Career development & training opportunities. Community and wellness programs including a 24/7 confidential counselling and support service. Discounted Leisure & Entertainment Memberships and BHP global recognition program. World-class global employee share plan. About Our Process If successful to the initial selection, we will host Face-to-Face Engagement Centers in Brisbane which is where you will have an opportunity to learn about the program and be interviewed for the traineeship.
At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are a number of checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants' suitability for a role including police / criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.
Supporting a Diverse Workforce The size and magnitude of our business not only provides significant opportunity for professional development, but also attractive salary packages with performance-based bonuses and unique BHP employee share program.
