In addition, we deliver evidence-based wellbeing group programs, both proactive and developmentally focused, that meet the needs of children and young people.Y Schools Queensland - Bundaberg Campus is recruiting a Wellbeing Counsellor to join the team on a Permanent, Part-Time (3 days a week) basis based in Bundaberg.About the roleAs a wellbeing counsellor at the YMCA supporting young people, your role is vital in helping individuals navigate the challenges they face and promoting mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. Offering a safe space where young people can talk openly about their feelings and experiences. Listening without judgment is crucial in building trust and understanding.What will my time look like?Conducting brief intervention counselling with individuals aimed at reducing barriers to educationDesigning and delivering preventative and early intervention group programsDeveloping the capabilities of staff by delivering YMCA's wellbeing framework, Thrive, including the creation of resources and training other staff on all wellbeing-related mattersSupporting students' learning by administering or coordinating assessments, formulating Personal Education Plans with teaching staff and resourcing students with disabilities (i.e. cognitive, sensory and social/emotional)Working with others to assess mental health, developmental, learning and behavioural difficulties and/or disorders to inform intervention planning, referrals and Personal Education Plan strategies and managementMaintaining a high level of knowledge of evidence-based counselling approaches and techniques, developmental, learning and behavioural difficulties and/or disorders and appropriate assessment tools for use in school and community settingsDelivering psychoeducation sessions to parents and caregivers on topics including but not limited to emotional regulation, autism spectrum disorder and family connectednessAm I a good match?Tertiary qualifications in counselling and/or psychology and must be fully registered or able to be registered with the Australian Counselling Association and/or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of AustraliaHighly developed skills and experience in working with young people to provide strategic support that enables students to improve their social-emotional, academic and vocational capacitiesDemonstrated expertise in evidence-based, trauma-informed practices to support young people experiencing difficulties related to mental health, developmental disorders, cognitive impairment and/or other similar conditionsExcellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholdersAbility to maintain confidentialityDemonstrated capacity to participate positively in a team environment and work across other program areasComputer literacy and prior experience using a range of office software including Word and ExcelSound knowledge of computer systems including an ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of programsCurrent driver's licence, current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and first aid qualification or willingness to obtainWhat's in it for you?Working with young people in a wellbeing context requires a balance of compassion, patience, and a commitment to empowering them to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
