The Veteran Support Centre (VSC) forms part of the Currumbin RSL group of businesses and was established in 1998 with the sole aim of supporting the veteran community. The VSC offers services in wellbeing and compensation advocacy, social and education.
Our dedicated VSC team is committed to supporting and enhancing the lives of veterans and their families. Now, we're searching for a Coordinator to lead this exceptional team.
The Opportunity:
The role of a Wellbeing Advocate focuses on building holistic relationships with veterans and their families by partnering them with local agencies, health practitioners, Government departments, and other ex-service organisations. Wellbeing support can range from simple life skills like providing advice on how to open bank accounts or how to apply for a Medicare Card, to providing referrals to counsellors or therapists.
This role can be a part-time or full-time position based in Currumbin.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Wellbeing Advocate, you will be responsible for:
Assessing clients and providing information and referrals to support an outcomes-based approach to veteran wellbeing.
Checking veterans' eligibility for support services and handling any general enquiries.
Engaging early with our contemporary veterans with the aim of providing support throughout the transition process.
Offering transition support for veterans and their families.
Providing support and assistance to veterans experiencing loss and grief.
Assisting veterans who may need crisis accommodation.
Supporting veterans and dependants to access financial planning advice.
Assisting veterans approaching retirement where they may require more ongoing care and support.
Considering how to involve extended family in wellbeing support provided.
Assisting with applications for a war widow's/widower's pension.
Preparing documentation that seeks support from the Department of Veterans' Affairs, other ex-service organisations, and rehabilitation providers.
Collaborating with external health practitioners and allied health professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to holistic veteran-centred care.
Maintaining good records of relevant events, conversations, correspondence, and other communications with the client and anyone else regarding their case.
Additional duties will include:
Providing end-of-month statistics to Centre Administration.
Attending meetings and contributing to the improvement of the VSC.
Assisting with Days of Remembrance when required.
Attending Veteran Expos as required.
Ensuring that the Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Veterans' Support Centre values and Code of Ethics are always upheld.
Undertaking ATDP training as required.
Other duties as requested by the Veteran Support Centre Manager.

Use superior communication and interpersonal skills to rapidly build rapport and trust.
Enjoy building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Work individually and as part of a team.
Thrive in an environment where no two working days are the same.
Have good knowledge of the Australian Defence Force.
Role requirements:
ATDP Wellbeing Advocate Training essential.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite essential.
Mental Health First Aid training desirable.
Code of Conduct:
Always maintain a high level of personal presentation.
Name badges (that are provided) are to be worn when representing the VSC.
Maintain a professional distance when assisting veterans in line with the ATDP Code of Ethics.
Comply with Currumbin Palm Beach RSL policies and procedures, Equal Employment Opportunities, Affirmative Action, Anti-discrimination, and Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
Do not offer services or assistance of a personal nature.
Wellbeing Advocates are not counsellors and must refer clients to professional help when necessary.
