Position Overview
Omega is seeking a skilled Welding Technician who will be responsible for using hand-welding and automated equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. This position will be responsible for operating appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. This is a 1st shift position reporting to the Value Stream Leader in the Welding department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use personal protective equipment. Ability to learn and participate in lean manufacturing work environment. Reads engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, welding schedules, sketches, work orders, and safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Prepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter. Devises or builds fixtures or jigs used to hold parts in place during welding. Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, or rulers. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements. Setting up components for welding according to specifications. Sets up, operates, or tends welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies. Welds components separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, or other alloys. Welds components in flat or vertical position. Inspects welded joints and conducts tests to ensure welds meet company standards, national code requirements, and customer job specifications. Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies Production Lead and/or Maintenance Department. Ability to escalate equipment and production constraints to lead personnel—utilizing Lean Daily Management system. Requirements
Skills and Experience
Associate's degree (A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in welding or related technical field and 1-2+ years of relevant welding experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with E-Beam welding and GTAW (TIG) welding is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills Deftness and attention to detail Professional Certification (e.g. AWS welding certificate) is a plus. Experience in basic welding / testing / calibration of pressure transducers and/or load cells is a plus. #J-18808-Ljbffr
