Research and Development Manager-Decorative Wattyl are a part of a global company called Hempel that produce a broad range of paints, varnishes, lacquers and special purpose protective coatings, incorporating trusted brands across the Globe.

We are on the look-out for a Research and Development Manager who will use their knowledge and skills in R&D and the coatings industry to provide leadership, innovation and development expertise in our Decorative Research & Development Laboratory as we move ahead in our creative endeavours at Wattyl.

As the Research and Development Manager you will:
Actively lead and direct all activities undertaken by the R&D laboratory, developing and improving product formulations of water based paints.
Take responsibility for ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of the members of the R&D Department.
Facilitate the transfer of Technology from other Hempel laboratories/market regions into Australia and New Zealand and ensuring technology being developed is capable of being produced commercially and support manufacturing scale up.
Acting as the Raw Material Coordinator for the ANZ region and facilitate raw material strategy for all Business Units.
Overseeing laboratory activities and ensuring they are carried out in accordance with the Company's quality system accreditation, in particular the requirements of Design Control, NATA and ISO9001.
As well as facilitating and introducing Continuous Improvement initiatives within the business.
Ensure technical input is given to projects across the business in cross functional projects such as supply chain/finance etc.
and co-ordinate across ANZ.
Provide leadership, training and mentoring laboratory staff to develop them into enthusiastic, competent Development Chemists and Project Leaders.
In order to be considered you will have:
Degree qualified in Chemistry or a related science discipline.
Minimum 5 years' experience within the coatings or related industries.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in team leadership, supervision or "front line" management.
Great communications skills both oral and written.
Computer literate using Microsoft Office and Laboratory systems as required.
Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to work logically through processes.
