Water And Sewer Supervisor

Details of the offer

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic Water and Sewer Supervisor to join the team.
Benefits include:
5 weeks Annual LeaveMonthly RDOAccommodation providedPersonal (Sick) Leave$115,000 per annum + Superannuation - with OT generally (not guaranteed) $130,000+Vehicle for work purposesThis role supervises one of Council's most crucial operations teams.
Responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and operations of the town's WTP and STP, it requires a great work ethic to be married with a sense of responsibility – the town relies on you.
The Cloncurry Water Treatment Plant is a core part of the Shire's infrastructure.
With a peak flow of over 6 ML per day from three sources – Lake Julius (Sunwater), river bores, and the Chinaman Creek Dam.
The plant has a rapid mixing tank (Potassium Permanganate, Coagulant, Polymer) which filters into three clarifiers.
The water then is dosed (chlorine gas) on its way to the clearwater contact tank (4.4 ML).
Excitingly, Cloncurry is upgrading to an electro-chlorination system mid-2024.
WTP duties involve testing and sampling at the plant and for the series of river bores and wells that supply it.
These tests are carried out at an onsite lab daily and sent to Queensland Health on a twice weekly basis for compliance monitoring.
Responsibilities include monitoring the plant SCADA to ensure optimal performance, chemical batching and dosing, daily inspections and cleaning of the rapid mix tank, clarifiers, and reclaim pump stations at our backwash ponds to ensure we are on top of any issues before they become serious, and general housekeeping within our main plant building and the upper control room.
The STP is across town from the WTP – a huge 3km drive!
Depending on treatment requirements, the team operates it most weekdays, but it is an automated system, so tasks revolve around general maintenance and monitoring.
Sulphuric acid, polymer, and hypo-chloride are used, providing the shire with Class A+ water for use on its bio-farm and lawn cemetery.
There are also seven processing ponds and the Imhoff tank that need checking.
The team inspects 11 sewer pump stations across the town daily (manual chamber check and rinse, and a switchboard check), and sometimes more in times of extreme weather.
Applications close Friday 24 January at 5:00pm. Cloncurry Shire Council reserves the right to recruit prior to the closing date if a suitable applicant applies.
