About Us Warringu is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by a community Board of Directors. The Board sets and oversees the Organisation's strategic direction. Warringu provides a specific range of services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by family violence and homelessness both in Cairns and from surrounding areas including Yarrabah, the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York communities, and the Torres Strait. We do not preclude women of any ethnicity or location from accessing our Service when in need.
About the Opportunity As part of our front-line team, the Sexual Violence Therapeutic Practitioner will offer clinical therapeutic support and advocacy for individuals accessing Warringu services who have experienced sexual violence. This role aims to address the emotional, psychological, and physical health needs of survivors, empowering them in their recovery journey. The practitioner will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to ensure that clients receive holistic, trauma-informed care that promotes healing, resilience, and sexual health.
About You To be successful in this role you will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification in the health or social sciences field and at least 5 years' experience Blue Card – Suitability for Child Related Employment Selection Criteria: Proven experience in providing trauma-informed therapeutic services, particularly to survivors of sexual violence. Demonstrated experience in addressing the intersection of sexual health, mental health, and trauma recovery. Familiarity with the impacts of sexual violence on mental, emotional, and sexual well-being that affect women and children experiencing domestic or family violence and homelessness, and an ability to be sensitive to their needs, particularly as these apply to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women and children. High level of written and spoken communication including the ability to liaise with government and non-government agencies to advocate on behalf of clients. A strong understanding and demonstrated experience in leading the delivery of complex case management and contemporary practices for working with women and children escaping family and/or sexual violence, including knowledge of cultural differences. Knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of family and/or sexual violence including relevant notifications and referral pathways. Demonstrated computer literacy skills including the full suite of Microsoft Office applications, data collection, and reporting portals. Knowledge of and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people and communities.
