We are currently seeking an Assistant Cotton Manager to join the Farm Team in South-West Queensland, located between Talwood and Mungindi. The position is based on the 26,855ha Worral Creek Aggregation, which includes 65,900ML of water entitlements. We offer a competitive salary along with family housing.
Job Description About the role
Reporting the Cotton Area Manager, the Assistant Cotton Manager holds a critical leadership position within the business and is responsible supporting the coordination and execution of designated area cropping activities and reporting.
Role Overview
Be a leader in driving a strong Safety First work Culture Coordinate machinery activities in the paddock, including machine setup, service, input resupply, refuelling, and logistics management between properties. Operate farm machinery for various tasks, including but not limited to spraying, paddock preparation, planting, spreading, irrigation, cartage, and harvest. Understanding and setup of infield GPS systems for all machines on farm, including data collection. Train and mentor new staff members on machinery operations, emphasising safety, timeliness, technology requirements and quality. Coordinate with external parties, such as contractors and delivery drivers, making sure all documentation is captured and Maximize the efficiency of machinery operations, especially when multiple machines are working together, such as multiple seeding rigs, sprayers, pickers or spreaders. Observing and monitoring crop health, growth stages and reporting to the Cotton Manager, or agronomists. Assist in the testing and recording of crop quality and production numbers as well as ensuring the safe storage and handling of commodities during and after harvest. Foster a learning environment, where staff are encouraged to ask questions and learn new things, with a strong focus on staff development. Qualifications About you
You bring large scale Cotton and Irrigation experience, which may come from roles such as Assistant Manager, Leading Hand, Senior Farm Hand or Senior Machinery Operator. You have a sound knowledge of growing irrigated cotton crops. You have experience in the operation of large-scale cropping plant and equipment. A willingness to learn, adopt new practices, and further develop personal skills while working in a team environment is what others pride you on. Your skill to mentor and coach others is one of your strengths, and you have demonstrated this previously. You have a high level of initiative and self-motivation. You have excellent communication skills and can work closely with consulting agronomists and contractors. Additional Information What are we offering you
