Information for Specialist International Medical Graduates. To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.
We welcome applications from Specialist International Graduates (SIMGs); however, are only able to appoint those who have received an outcome determination of 'substantially comparable' due to the limitation in supervision provisions. Those who have not applied to RACP for a Specialist Assessment will be placed on hold and not assessed until the RACP determination can be provided. The RACP Specialist Assessment process determines whether the training and qualifications of SIMG's are comparable to those of Australian-trained specialists in General Medicine. This assessment is crucial for ensuring that all practitioners comply with Australia standards.
Please note: In line with the requirements of the Medical Board of Australia Registration Standards: Specialist Registration, it is a breach of National Law for practitioners to use the protected 'Specialist' title if they do not hold specialist registration with AHPRA. SIMGs who complete a supervision period with RACP as part of the specialists assessment process cannot be appointed to a consultant specialist position with WACHS until the practitioner holds specialist registration and it is reflected on the AHPRA website. In the interim, WACHS can appoint suitable applicants as a Senior Medical Practitioner, Health Service Medical Practitioner or District Medical Officer while supporting the completion of the supervision period. An individual assessment of a SIMG application will determine the appropriate classification to which practitioners can be appointed.
Recruitment agencies presenting medical practitioners to WACHS must be a WACHS approved supplier.
How to apply: Applying is straightforward. Click the apply button and include the following with your application:
1.A comprehensive CV that clearly outlines your experience and skills in chronological order. Ensuring that the duration in the role and any gaps in service are easily identified and explained. This will assist to better understand your career progression and breadth of your professional experience.
2.Complete your online application form and respond to the built-in Eligibility Criteria Questions. Please note that there is no need to attach a separate document addressing these questions or the Work-Related Criteria detailed in the JDF.
