About the role Public Programs is responsible for developing and delivering interpreted, engaging and curated programs aimed at providing access to the national archival collection in the richest possible ways. This includes onsite, offsite, and online programs through exhibitions – touring, temporary, and permanent – lifelong learning programs, school programs, and digital experiences.
As a Visitor Services Officer, you will engage Australians with the Archives every day. Are you dedicated to helping Australians learn more about our shared histories? Do you love working with schools, families, and other visitors? This might just be the job for you.
Main duties of the role include: Deliver engaging activities, tours, and education programs in galleries and public spaces to visitors and school groups.Provide high-quality customer service to visitors, including responding to requests in-person, by phone, and email, and providing accurate information about our exhibitions, programs, amenities, and resources.Perform administrative duties including collating daily statistics, operating a point of sales system, and other administrative duties as directed.Provide support to develop and research tours for visitors.Monitor and maintain the presentation of public spaces.Provide evacuation and fire warden duties and First Aid response as required.Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety, and participative management within a work and team environment.Positions may be offered as part-time rostered shift work as per the National Archives of Australia Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027, and the successful person will be required to commit to a roster that includes regular weekend work. All successful applicants must be willing to work flexible hours as required, including at times after hours.
A demonstrated interest in and knowledge of Australian history and museums, along with experience in customer service and presentation skills, are desirable.
To be eligible for the role, you must be an Australian citizen.
If selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
You will also be required to obtain and retain a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
