About Us : Katherine Town Council is the Municipal Council for Katherine, NT. Providing services to the Katherine Community relating to rates, roads, infrastructure, animal control, waste management and other core essential services. At the heart of the Big Rivers region is Katherine, the fourth largest township in the Northern Territory. Outside of Darwin and Palmerston Local Government Areas, Katherine is the next major regional centre closest to the Port of Darwin; the only major multimodal port located in Northern Australia and Australia's gateway to the Asia Pacific. Katherine is located at a critical crossroads point for Northern Australia and the top end, connecting Perth to Darwin from the west and Adelaide to Darwin through the north/south highway and rail corridor. Katherine services the wider region with access to education and medical services. Around 8,000 people live in the Katherine municipality. The local RAAF Airbase at the Katherine suburb of Tindal adds around 2,000 to this figure making it over 10,000 people living and working in Katherine. VALUES Accepting of DIVERSITY Sense of COMMUNITY Respect for PEOPLE, our ENVIRONMENT and our CULTURE About You : Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service Good interpersonal and communication skills Proven knowledge and understanding of Katherine region and its surrounds Good computer skills and ability to learn new platforms and programs Good literacy and numeracy skills Ability to work cooperatively as a team as well as unsupervised Desirable Relevant certificate or qualification Knowledge of tourism and/or service industry in similar local government or commercial environment  Position Summary : This position reports directly to the Visitor Information Centre Manager is responsible for the provision of friendly, efficient and accurate customer service to visitors in relation to attractions, accommodation and touring options available within Katherine and its regions. This position must work collaboratively and cohesively in a team environment, working together and achieving a common goal.   We are looking for seasonal staff in both full time and part time (30 hours per week) roles over our busy dry season. Roles will be on a seasonal contract running from April to October 2024. Key Requirements : Completion of basic tasks involving the utilisation of a range of basic skills under established practices and procedures. Work is monitored under supervision either individually or in a team environment. Skills obtained through on-the-job training and workplace induction training. May include off-the-job training through accredited short courses. Limited to basic communications with other staff and possibly with the public. Completion of Year 10 and/or an appropriate labour market program or similar work/skills. Job Responsibility : Provide high quality customer service to Visitor Information Centre patrons to maximise the upselling of tourism products; Provide effective and productive communications to visitors, operators, and other stakeholders via various forms (i.e. telephone, email, face to face contact) Monitor and maintain display stock; Actively support the Visitor Information Centre day to day operations including famil participation, shift and weekend work; Receive and balance financial transactions as required and in accordance with Council procedures; Assist the Manager with operations of services as directed, including providing accurate advice and guidance to patrons whilst Manager is unavailable Understand and become familiar with resources and information related to the position and be able to communicate such information efficiently to staff and patrons; Work collaboratively as a team, communicate well with team members, be respectful and courteous to team-mates and patrons at all times; Other responsibilities as shall be reasonably associated with or incidental to the above responsibilities or as shall, in the course of the employment, be agreed between the parties as being or forming part of the duties. Organisational Responsibilities Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements. Comply with workplace procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control. Participate in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety. Identify and report health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, property damage and mishaps at the workplace. Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council's Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster; Ensure incumbent is dedicated to servicing our community and will listen to and proactively respond to their needs; Foster sustainable, honest relationships with the community and stakeholders Perform and deliver results that align with organisations strategic direction and serve our community; Work in accordance with Council's Vision and Mission statement.
