Thorn-Clarke Wines is a family-owned, estate grown premium wine producer, based in Angaston South Australia. We are proud custodians of approximately 100 hectares of vineyard (including holdings in some of the most Southerly and Northerly sites in the region). Our small but passionate team has achieved over 20 trophies at the International and Domestic level, a 5 Red Star rating from the Halliday Wine Companion, and certification from Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
Our winery has the capacity to process up to 2000 tonnes, and we process our red and white grapes on site using a mixture of hands-on techniques along with the use of our modern equipment.
About the Role: We are looking for a qualified Winemaker, who is quality focused and has a strong passion for wine to join our small but highly skilled team during Vintage 2025.
You will work closely with our very knowledgeable and highly experienced Chief Winemaker, in a hands-on capacity in the winery, cellar and laboratory. You will be involved in all aspects of the winemaking process and focused on maintaining quality control and product integrity to ensure that high quality wine is produced.
Key Responsibilities: Production and processing of premium winesVintage processing and barrel managementMonitoring ferments/wines to ensure quality and within specifications set by Chief WinemakerSupervise crushing of grapesCreating accurate cellar notes in a timely mannerPreparation of wines for bottling/despatchStaff supervision and managementMaintain and update winery recordsAbout You: The ideal candidate will need to be enthusiastic, reliable, detail oriented, able to work well under pressure, have excellent communication skills and be adaptable to changing priorities. You will also have strong planning, organisational, leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills; and a dedication to uphold quality and safe work practices.
To be successful you will have the following:
Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology (or equivalent)Current drivers' licence (ability to drive a manual vehicle is highly regarded)Extensive knowledge of winemaking processes, procedures and equipmentAt least 5 years of winemaking experience, including team managementCurrent high-risk forklift licence (highly desirable)Excellent communication and organisational skillsHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailAbility to work autonomously and in a small teamAvailability for shift work, including weekendsThe successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, which includes drug and alcohol testing.
Remuneration will be discussed with the successful candidate, based on skills and expertise.
