Victims Register AdvocateFull-time PermanentDetails: Victim Support ACT (VSACT) is seeking highly motivated individuals with excellent advocacy and communication skills to join our team at the ACT Human Rights Commission. Working under the direction of the Victims Register Manager, this role will administer the Adult Offenders Victims Register, the Youth Justice Victims Register, and the Affected Persons Registers in accordance with the Charter of Victims Rights and other legislation.
Duties of the Victims Register Advocate include: Working collaboratively with external stakeholders to advocate for the rights and interests of victims of crime and affected persons;Working directly with victims of crime and affected persons to provide trauma-informed support and advocacy, including the provision of information, risk assessment, and safety planning;Providing administrative support to the Victims Register Manager and Victims Register Senior Advocates;Undertaking other duties as reasonably required which contribute to the effective and efficient operation of Victim Support ACT.If you want to work in a collaborative, fast-paced team where there is opportunity for initiative and innovation, this role is for you.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Demonstrated, or the ability to quickly obtain an understanding of issues affecting victims and affected persons, including family violence and sexual violence, and the importance of victims and affected persons rights.Demonstrated experience in working directly with victims and vulnerable members of the community.Demonstrated, or the ability to quickly obtain, knowledge of the ACT criminal justice system and the ACAT and the roles and responsibilities of justice agencies.Demonstrated, or the ability to quickly obtain, skills to interpret legislation and legal documents.Behavioural Capabilities: The ability to manage work priorities, identify urgent tasks, and adapt to a dynamic work environment.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce accurate workplace documents, read and interpret complex court outcomes, and engage sensitively and collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders.The ability to work sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds and/or complex needs, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, clients with a disability, and clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, in line with ACT Public Service values.Compliance Requirements/Qualifications: Qualifications in law, criminal justice, social work, psychology, or related disciplines are highly desirable.This position requires a Working with Vulnerable People Check and a National Police Check.To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service (ACTPS), you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid work visa.If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) will be terminated.Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
