Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare seeks a visionary and collaborative leader for the role of Vice President of Research (VPR). Gillette Children's has been at the forefront of treating children who have brain, bone, and movement conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and neurological systems since 1897. Gillette Children's has a long history of well-respected, clinically relevant research. Gillette Children's Research has seven well-developed Research Programs, each with scientist and clinician dyad leadership. These Programs are Gait and Motion Analysis, Health Services, Neuroscience, Orthopedics, Spine, Pain and Comfort, Rehabilitation. Researchers also partner with Lived Experience Partners.
The Vice President of Research (VPR) at Gillette Children's is a key leadership position, newly created. The VPR will be responsible for providing strategic vision, overseeing clinical research operations, evaluating new initiatives, and promoting dissemination and implementation efforts of research. In a dyad partnership with the Medical Director of Research, the VPR will focus on growing the research portfolio in line with the areas of strategic importance and clinical expertise of Gillette Children's. Gillette Children's is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader who will strengthen Gillette Research's reputation as a global leader in these fields, and work to enable every individual to create their own story through advancement of clinical discovery, care improvement and innovation into the clinical care of Gillette patients.
The primary responsibilities of the full-time, in-person role include but are not limited to:
Enhance Gillette Children's reputation as a global leader in advancing evidence-based clinical care and outcomes.Strengthen a consultative, proactive research and innovation partner relationship with clinical, scientific, and administrative leadership.Grow the research portfolio in line with the areas of strategic importance and clinical expertise of Gillette Children's.Lead Research Governance, Clinical Scientists, Sponsored Projects Administration, Research Services, and Research Finance groups and committees.Ensure that Gillette Research focuses on questions relevant to Gillette patients and families.Promote an environment focused on collaborating, improving Research operations, and maintaining compliance.Responsible for ensuring mentoring and coaching Gillette Research clinical scientists, clinician investigators, and Research staff, encouraging a supportive culture of continued education and professional development.Promote external partnerships, innovation and technology transfer. Collaborate on dissemination and implementation efforts to accelerate the translation of research findings to the clinical setting.As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this Vice President will work collaboratively with leaders across the organization in creating and supporting a long-term strategy for the organization, in developing key policies, and in developing the annual Operating Plan.
In partnership with the MDR, work together with the clinical and scientific dyad leaders of each Research Program to ensure multi-disciplinary research collaboration, in line with the multi-disciplinary clinical care at Gillette.
Through sound financial management, cost recovery, and identification of research funding opportunities, the goal is to ensure Gillette Research can manage and has adequate resources to fulfill its mission and maintain its core values. The VP will improve patient access to clinical trials, infrastructure, assess innovation, and collaborate with key stakeholders both across Gillette and external to the organization. The focus will be on growing research and innovation that is high-impact and of greatest benefit to Gillette patients.
Qualifications Required Advanced degree required (PhD, MD, MBA, MPA, MPH, Masters in Clinical Research, etc.).A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a research leadership role in one or more of the following: sponsored programs administration, research operations, research finance, human subjects research, and/or federal proposal and award administration.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively across the organization.Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and visionary skills.Familiarity with process improvement methodologies, essential research policies and procedures.Proven personnel management and mentorship skills.Working knowledge with business development and distinction from research.Demonstrated expertise in understanding and utilizing business and healthcare analytics, research trends and funding strategies.Willing to travel up to 20% for business needs.Preferred Experience as a principal investigator driving a clinical research line and in obtaining extramural funding.Experience as an administrator leading research programs that includes balancing compliance with facilitating scientific innovation.Experience in a healthcare setting.Gillette Children's is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse team, as we know that the diverse experiences of our employees make Gillette a stronger and better organization.
