Join the University of Queensland as a Veterinary Officer (Animal Ethics and Welfare), a pivotal leadership role within our Research Ethics and Integrity team.
In this unique position you will provide expert veterinary and technical advice to Animal Ethics Committees (AECs) and the research and teaching community, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and compliance with relevant legislation and codes.
Your work will directly support the University's mission to promote innovation and excellence in research and teaching while upholding the 3Rs principles for the scientific use of animals - refinement, replacement and reduction.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate scientific, technical and operational advice to the Animal Ethics Committees (AECs), animal ethics team, and the UQ research and teaching community to ensure animal welfare and compliance with relevant legislation, policies and codes.
Create and deliver resources, training programs, and standard operating procedures to promote ethical and responsible animal care and use.
Coordinate and perform regular audits of animal facilities to ensure compliance and welfare standards are being met and oversee approved animal research and teaching activities.
Support the development and implementation of policies and procedural improvements to maintain the University's ethical animal research and teaching practices.

About YouAcademic qualifications that meet the requirements for registration as a Veterinarian in Queensland.
Extensive experience in veterinary practice, ideally within a complex regulatory environment.
Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge of, the regulatory frameworks related to the scientific use of animals in Australia.
Strong communication skills with expertise in negotiation, influencing, and building relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in producing professional reports, briefings and correspondence.
Experience working with or knowledge of Animal Ethics Committees and the care and use of animals in research is desirable.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, a criminal check and mandatory immunisations.
The successful candidate must also hold a valid Driver's Licence as travel between locations, such as Gatton and the Gold Coast is required.
