This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a highly effective, dedicated and enthusiastic Special Needs Education Assistant to provide classroom level support to enable the delivery of high quality, student focused learning programs as part of our Specialised Autism Learning Program (SALP).
As Special Needs Education Assistant SALP, you will support a Specialised Learning Program for students with ASD and as such will have a sound understanding of ASD; combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with teachers, parents/carers and fellow Education Assistants. You will support teachers to implement evidence-based practice and pedagogy, to meet the needs of students with ASD (without an intellectual disability), in the program, as well as assist teachers in mainstream classes.
In collaboration with teachers, the suitable applicant will implement highly personalised learning plans to facilitate access to age-appropriate curriculum. Under limited direction, you will implement evidence-based individualised programs that improve academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation skills.
The successful applicant will ideally have strong interpersonal skills, high levels of personal organisation (including effective record keeping) and the capacity to ensure compliance with college and Department of Education policies and procedures, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator – Specialised Autism Learning Program.

Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
