Take your mechanical skills in a new direction as a Vehicle Inspector, where you'll apply your practical skills to provide expert advice and customer service helping shape safe transport and vehicle standards across South Australia.
We're on the search for Vehicle Inspectors to join the team responsible for assessing the road worthiness of both heavy and light vehicles, ensuring they meet legislative standards and contribute to safer roads for all.About Us At the Department for Infrastructure and Transport we are connecting South Australians to keep our State moving.

Our Regulation Directorate is responsible for driving the Government's regulation and policy initiatives and ensuring appropriate compliance, behaviour and safe access across our transport networks.
This includes a variety of functions such as vehicle inspections, vehicle engineering services and standards, delivery of the Vehicle Identity Assessment Station (VIDAS) and Accident Towing.What You'll Be Doing Our Vehicle Inspectors conduct detailed inspections on a range of vehicles, including heavy and light vehicles and buses.
They audit maintenance schedules, support accreditation systems, and provide technical advice to government agencies and clients.
The role also involves coordinating inspections in regional locations.
In this role, you'll be required to verbally communicate and prepare clear written reports for a variety of government and industry stakeholders, turning technical and inspection findings into easy-to-understand advice and making sure the important information is accessible and easy to follow by all audiences.What We're Looking For For success in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and qualities:Technical Expertise – understanding of vehicle mechanics and compliance standards for heavy, light and passenger vehicles.
Including recent vehicle repair industry experience and knowledge of complex vehicle systems and evolving technologies.Strong Written Communication – ability to write clear, detailed reports that simplify technical findings for a wide range of stakeholders such as SA Police, across the Department, other government agencies and industry operators.Analytical and Problem-Solving – ability to analyse complex information and research findings to provide advice in the written reports and recommendations.Attention to Detail – a keen eye for detail and skill in conducting thorough inspections and identifying key compliance or safety issues.Organisation and Time Management – ability to schedule and coordinate inspections, while managing multiple priorities and customers.Adaptability and Customer Service – willingness to work in a dynamic environment with a variety of customers and stakeholders.Qualifications/ExperienceQualified Light or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or any other professional mechanical qualification with appropriate vehicular experience.Why Join Us?
Step into a dynamic role where every day is different, and you'll gain hands-on experience with Government legislation and services, work within a supportive team, and connect with the community.Special Conditions and Requirements Prior to employment with the Department, the successful candidate will be required to provide:A National Police Check (NPC) which is required to be renewed every three years.A Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (WWCC) which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.Other requirements of the role include:Driver's License: You must have a current driver's license for cars and hold or be willing to get a Heavy Rigid (HR) license.Work Hours: Work is 152 hours over four weeks, usually Monday to Friday from 7:45 am to 4:15 pm, but you may need to work some evenings, weekends, or public holidays occasionally.Location and Uniform: The role is based at Regency Park, and you will need to wear the provided Agency uniform.Travel Requirements: Regular travel within the state will be necessary, including some overnight stays, with extra travel allowance provided.Remuneration OPS4 - $76,561 to $80,256 per annumVacancy Details We have multiple vacancies that are available, temporary appointments for a period up to two years.
