About the Role
This is a fixed term opportunity to support the Vegetation Management Program within the North West Region of CFA. The program aims to reduce bushfire risk by managing vegetation and enhancing fire prevention knowledge. CFA members conduct planned burns on private and public lands, varying by workforce availability and skill.
The Vegetation Management Support Officer acts as a liaison between CFA, Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), municipalities, and other agencies to coordinate resources, approvals, and other administrative tasks related to burn planning. This role collaborates with the District Vegetation Management Officer and assists in regional service delivery, including VMO related tasks when required.
More specifically, the duties involved include:
Support the District Vegetation Management Officer (VMO) in achieving fuel management goals by coordinating resources for planned burns.
Communicate and collaborate with CFA staff, brigades, and the Vegetation Management Officer for planned burning activities.
Liaise with FFMVic to facilitate resource allocation for mutual goals, maintaining communication and expectations.
Support fuel management training by coordinating information collection with CFA and FFMVic Instructors.
Promote CFA involvement in cross-tenure, strategic roadside, and community-led planned burning with a risk-based approach.
Collect and maintain reporting data for planned burning and other treatment works in the region.
Assist with relevant reporting tasks as needed by the Vegetation Management Coordinator.
This position does involve travel across the Northwest region and the successful candidate will have access to a CFA pool car for this purpose.
About You
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with the ability to develop an understanding of Planned Burning resource requirements. The ideal candidate will be adept at planning and coordinating timely resource movement to designated locations.
You will assist in the development of Burn Plans by compiling essential information and supporting the District Vegetation Management Officer in their duties.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to problem-solve effectively and establish productive inter-agency relationships.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, along with the capability to maintain database programs is required for this role.
