About the Role The Vegetation Management Program aims to reduce bushfire risk by managing vegetation and enhancing fire prevention knowledge. The Vegetation Management Support Officer acts as a liaison between CFA, Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), municipalities, and other agencies to coordinate resources, approvals, and other administrative tasks related to burn planning. This role collaborates with the District Vegetation Management Officer and assists in regional service delivery, including VMO related tasks when required.
More specifically, the duties involved include:
Support the District Vegetation Management Officer (VMO) in achieving fuel management goals by coordinating resources for planned burns. Communicate and collaborate with CFA staff, brigades, and the Vegetation Management Officer for planned burning activities. Liaise with FFMVic to facilitate resource allocation for mutual goals, maintaining communication and expectations. Support fuel management training by coordinating information collection with CFA and FFMVic Instructors. Promote CFA involvement in cross-tenure, strategic roadside and community-led planned burning with a risk-based approach. Collect and maintain reporting data for planned burning and other treatment works in the region. Assist with relevant reporting tasks as needed by the Vegetation Management Coordinator. This position does involve travel across the Northwest region and the successful candidate will have access to a CFA pool car for this purpose. About You Able to develop a sound understanding of Planned Burning resource requirements. Able to plan and coordinate the movement of resources on time to the correct destination, using knowledge of District Brigade networks, membership, and travel times. Skilled in compiling information required for the development of Burn Plans and assisting the District Vegetation Management Officer in the performance of their duties. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability to show strong attention to detail. Good problem-solving skills and ability to forge and maintain productive inter-agency relationships.
