The European Union Delegation to Australia, Canberra is looking for a Trade Affairs Assistant in the Trade Section.
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to Australia, Canberra, works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Australian government in areas that are part of the EU's remit.
We offerThe post of Trade Affairs Assistant (Local Agent Group 2) in the Trade section. The team consists of 4 people and there are occasional atypical working hours. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Trade Section, contributing to the fulfilment of the mandate of the EU Delegation as regards the trade and economic relations between the European Union and Australia.
Following main tasks and duties are currently required:
Planning and organisation of Commercial Counsellors meetings (including trade reporting for various trade meetings);Assisting in the organisation of EU-AUS FTA rounds and trade events;Preparation of trade briefings / trade analysis;Regular liaising with Australian Ministries: monitoring of trade / economic policy changes;Regular contacts with press, academic, business circles on all trade / economic matters;Preparation, assessment and forecasts on trade flows;Monitoring of various EU and Australian policies.We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated colleague interested in being part of a dynamic and results-oriented team.
The candidate we are looking for should have:
excellent communication, analytical and conceptual skills;the ability to write and present issues clearly;the ability to work in a proactive and autonomous way;a sense of initiative;organisational skills;the ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relations with various stakeholders in Australia such as Federal and State Government Departments, academics, business organizations, diplomats etc.;the capacity to focus on priorities and to organize and deliver work under time pressure.The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from 7,006 AUD per month (excl. Superannuation). There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays.
The expected start date will be 01/11/2024.

The processAfter the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
