Senior Technical Officer: Pharmacy/Chemistry (HEO 5) Based in the Clinical & Health Science Unit at the City West Campus Full-time, continuing position Salary Band: $78,975 - $93,298 per annum (plus 17% superannuation) About the Role
The Senior Technical Officer is responsible for the technical management and operation of the Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, and Chemistry teaching laboratories, including the Pharmacy Practice Integrated Learning Suite (PPILS). The role provides high-level technical support to students, academic staff, and external stakeholders, ensuring best practices are upheld to support teaching and research activities.
The position oversees WHS compliance within the Academic Unit, offering technical guidance and WHS advice to ensure the safe and effective use of laboratory facilities.
Core Responsibilities

Manage the daily operation, processes, equipment and resources within the Pharmacy/Chemistry teaching laboratories and the Pharmacy Practice Integrated Learning Suite (PPILS) Provide high-level technical support, advice and customer service to academic and technical staff, internal/external stakeholders, and undergraduate/postgraduate students to support teaching and research activities within the Academic Unit In conjunction with academic staff and the Technical Services Team assist with the operations in teaching and research laboratories to create an environment with a focus on Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) for the delivery of high-quality teaching and research Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments for the safe and effective maintenance and handling of new equipment, materials and processes and ensuring staff and students are appropriately trained Apply WHS policies and University Chemical Advisory Safety Committee guidelines Essential Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or extensive knowledge, experience and technical expertise in coordinating, operating and maintaining laboratory activities Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and initiative including experience in work planning, research, analytical skills and prioritising to meet deadlines, often with competing demands in a complex team environment Demonstrated enthusiasm for the provision of high-quality customer service along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at varying professional and academic levels, from diverse cultural backgrounds Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation and risk assessment strategies within a laboratory setting Benefits
