PhD Project Opportunity - Ecology of Chuditch in Fragmented & Intact Habitat University of New South Wales Location: Perth or Sydney
Chuditch (western quoll) are nationally threatened and survive in a range of habitats in the southwest of Western Australia. They are threatened by land clearance and predation by introduced cats and foxes.
This PhD will examine the ecology of chuditch in fragmented forests within a farmland matrix and explore management actions needed to encourage their return to regenerating habitats.
The project is supported by Chalice Mining and is based near Julimar State Forest in Western Australia. The research will help guide restoration design and track restoration success for farmland areas.
The project will involve substantial time in the field including trapping, radio-collaring and remote camera trapping.
The PhD candidate will be required to apply for a RTP scholarship through UNSW in January 2025 for a mid-2025 start. Project funds are available to support travel and field work.
The project is a collaboration between the University of New South Wales (Assoc Prof Katherine Moseby), Chalice Mining and the University of Western Australia (Assoc Prof Nicki Mitchell).
