Description The University of Houston-Downtown is seeking bilingual students with proficiency in English and Spanish to translate Story Maps as a part of a Library of Congress grant project focused on "Discovering Afro-Latino Heritage". This position involves translating Story Maps content between English and Spanish to create a comprehensive and accessible collection for our faculty and students.
Key Responsibilities Translate Story Maps content from English to Spanish and vice versa Ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations, maintaining the original meaning and tone Collaborate with faculty and students to understand the context and content of the Story Maps Review and edit translations for accuracy, grammar, and clarity Maintain consistent communication with project supervisors and team members Meet project deadlines and manage translation tasks effectively Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient in both written and spoken English and Spanish Strong translation skills with an emphasis on accuracy and cultural sensitivity Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Qualifications Current enrollment at the University of Houston-Downtown Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, completed coursework, or demonstrated experience in translation Strong academic standing Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with translation projects Experience with ArcGIS Story Maps Major or minor in Spanish, Translation Studies, Linguistics, or related fields About University of Houston-Downtown Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is the second-largest university in Houston and has served the educational needs of the nation's fourth-largest city since 1974.
